Contemporary Cuban Art
27. March - 19. April 2000

Visitors were able to catch a rare glimpse of contemporary cuban art at this exhibition in Düsseldorf. With significant help from digame Artconsult, over 30 Cuban artist presented more than 120 items at the ThyssenKrupp Trade Center. For most of these artists it was their first exhibit in Europe.

During opening ceremonies, Ambassador Oscar Martinez Cordovés emphasized how much he appreciated the well-executed presentation of the art works. Thyssen Board member Hans-Ulrich Gruber underlined the significance of this exhibition as part of the tradition at ThyssenKrupp, who has been putting on exhibits for years. Final thoughts on the importance of Cuban art were given by Dr. Annette Lagler, head curator of the Ludwigs Forum of International Art in Aachen.
The night before the grand opening, Cuban vice president Carlos Lage Davila along with his 15 people economic delegation were able to get a sneak preview of the exhibition. He recognized the exceptional initiative on part of ThyssenKrupp, and was delighted with the results. This photo shows the vice president talking to digame artconsult’s Gabriele Meyer-Ulrich.
About 400 guests enjoyed the artworks as well as the buffet served by ThyssenKrupp catering. The artists were happy to see that at the end of the night, more than 30 paintings had been sold.
